Bsc (Hons) Computing

About Programme

The BSc (Hons) Computing programme is designed to build strong foundations in computer science while developing practical, industry-ready skills. You will study programming, software engineering, databases, networks, and cyber security, alongside current topics such as cloud computing, data analytics, and human-computer interaction. The curriculum emphasizes problem-solving, systems thinking, and professional practice, preparing you to design, build, and evaluate secure and scalable digital solutions.

You will have access to modern computing labs, collaborative project studios, and industry-standard development tools. Throughout the programme you will work on real-world briefs, team-based software projects, and a final-year capstone that showcases your ability to deliver end-to-end solutions. You will also engage with guest speakers, professional workshops, and employability sessions focused on software development practices and emerging technologies.

How the course will be delivered:

Teaching blends lectures, workshops, lab sessions, and studio-based development. Practical classes and team projects are delivered on campus to foster collaboration and hands-on learning. Regular seminars and peer reviews support reflective practice and professional communication.

Most teaching activities require on-campus attendance. Coursework is submitted through the Learning Management System (LMS), while examinations and presentations are conducted on campus. Continuous assessment includes coding assignments, lab exercises, group projects, and technical reports.

Required equipment

You will need access to a laptop or desktop PC to participate in online activities, complete coursework, and run development tools. Please refer to the minimum specifications provided here.

Additionally, computers are available for your use throughout the campus, and there are laptop loan schemes available to assist you during your studies. Further details can be found here.

How you will learn on your course

The BSc (Hons) Computing programme is delivered by experienced academics and industry practitioners who embed current research and professional standards into the curriculum. Guest lectures, hackathons, and employer-led challenges ensure your learning stays aligned with real-world practices.

The study approach combines lectures, seminars, labs, self-directed learning, and both individual and collaborative software projects.

For any non-academic assistance needed during your tenure at Accra Technical University, the Student Support and Welfare Team is readily available to offer support.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should hold a recognized high school qualification (e.g., WASSCE/SSSCE or equivalent) with strong passes in Mathematics and English. Applicants with relevant diplomas, professional certifications, or mature entry qualifications may be considered subject to an interview.

Modules & Courses

The programme follows a structured progression from fundamentals to advanced computing and professional practice. You will complete taught modules each semester, culminating in a final-year capstone project and optional industry placement or internship where available.
